About

Dale Napier is a freelance Graphic Designer specialising in conceptual artwork, print design, front-end web design and photography.

I was born in central Queensland, Australia but after moving to Hong Kong at the age of ten – my world view is anything but limited. Since the three year adventure that Hong Kong provided during the early part of the decade (2000′s), I have been living in Brisbane – a peaceful yet vibrant city that has provided many opportunities and holds many memories.

During High School, I didn’t study much art or design but flourished in other aspects like Music and Science. I earned my Diploma of Graphic Design – Advertising & Multimedia on a part-Scholarship at Martin College (Brisbane, Australia). During my study I found that there was information available, freely and in large volumes on the internet, that I used to develop my own personal design style.

Before finishing my qualification, I started at P’s in a Pod – a boutique design and multimedia agency on the Gold Coast.

handling many multimedia projects including websites, e-newsletters and promotional digital content; creating highly-polished conceptual artwork for core pitches and more technical work such as prepress and print design

My role at P’s in a Pod was an all-round designer – handling many multimedia projects including websites, e-newsletters and promotional digital content; creating highly-polished conceptual artwork for core pitches and more technical work such as prepress and print design. While at P’s, I had the chance to work on big-name commercial projects for QPAC, Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, Niecon Developments, QLS, Centro, Sunseeker Australia & more.

After 2.5 years of working with P’s, I decided to explore the world for 4 months – travelling to the Middle East, Europe and America. You can view photos of my explorations on Flickr.

In 2009 I won the TopCoder Open – a Graphic Design contest held in Las Vegas consisting of 10 finalists from around the world.

I’m now working full time from home as a freelance Graphic Designer, working on local projects ranging from bands to community projects as well as working internationally as a TopCoder Studio designer. I am also picking up more photography work as my skills (and expensive photography equipment eBay habit) increase.

I am always looking to expand my digital skills, maintaining a keen interest in other creative industries including: animation & motion, video, audio and even front-end coding.

As much as design is a core part of my life – when not sitting in front of an iMac I thoroughly enjoy spending time with my partner, family and friends. Music is also a big part of my life and you can regularly (when I’m not budgeting) find me on the dancefloor breaking out some moves to House, Techno, Trance, Pop Disco or Dance/Electronica (according to iTunes & Last.FM). I try and maintain an active lifestyle where possible but confess to the occasional regular bit of chocolate.
