International Kodály Society Brisbane
Description
IKS2011 is a conference being held in Brisbane for it’s 20th Anniversary. The Society and Event are ‘inspired by the educational and aesthetic philosophies of the Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály’. Previous branding examples proved a tad lackluster and the event needed a little injection of enthusiasm.
The branding needed to represent the Symposium’s theme: ‘Shared Visions – Connecting with Kodály’. The two main points of focus to balance were that the event is being held in Queensland, Australia and the idea of coming together.
Representing ‘coming together’ (and indeed ‘Australiana’) visually can go cheesy very quickly, so I chose to focus first on a more tasteful concept to represent – music – and work in the other elements as development progressed.
The most noticeable element of the overall branding is the colour palette – burnt oranges and deep reds. This represents the deep polished tones of stringed instruments as well as the Australian outback.
The K is the focus point of the logomark, and represents various things: boomerang (always ‘comes back’ – ‘coming together’, a folding ribbon (celebratory, elegance) and a ‘corner’ of the world). The lettering is minimalist and striking – contrasting rounded edges with sharp corners and points.
The website is clean and crisp to match the logomark – colours are vibrant and the feel of the page is one of an exciting, modern, well-organised event.
