Wear It With Pride (ACON)
Description
Wear It With Pride is a campaign designed to inform and promote the recent reforms that have happened at a Federal level. The changes are related to laws that previously discriminated against same-sex couples and their families.
My design fell under the Public Office category – specifically to do with those in service. The reforms now meant that same-sex relationships are now recognised when dealing with pensions, allowances & benefits, and even procedures when dealing with returning your loved ones body if the worst should happen.
The shirt represents sadness, as having a loved one leave for service is still heartbreaking – no matter what type of relationship you have. However the soldier on the left is determined and absolute with the fact that if something happens to him while serving, he knows his partner will receive the same benefits and respect that was once exclusive to different-sex couples.
I chose a main theme for the shirt that emulated vintage sailor’s tattoo’s – hearts and roses, scrolls and simply coloured, rosy cheeked figures. I felt this was an upbeat and perfect representation of the feeling of missing your loved one.
The tagline ‘Love braves all battles’ has a double meaning. Not only does it reflect the battles our men and women in service fight overseas, but it also reflects the battles same-sex couples had to face just to be recognised for simple things that are now equal.
